As many of us reach the half century mark in our lives, we find ourselves reflecting back on how far we have come, what we have accomplished, where we have been, and any regrets we may have.  One of the things that I do not regret which ranks up there next to my children, is keeping some level of fitness in my life.

Some may get to the mid point in their years, look in a full length mirror and feel unhappy about themselves.  Not having that youthful fit looking body can be a real bummer. It is difficult to maintain a physique of a twenty something through out the remainder of your life. We get jobs, get married, raise families and our body becomes the lower priority and we start to gain weight as our activity level drops and our diet gets out of hand as we eat and drink too much of things we shouldn’t be drinking too much of. If you know what I mean 😉

If you love running, it doesn’t have to stop completely in the cold weather months or even on spring and fall mornings when the temperatures may drop even it it is warm during the day.  Although, it is not wise to run in extremely cold temperatures, running when it is cold outside can be made comfortable and injury free.

Simple Weight Loss Formula: Calories Burned > Calories Eaten of the Right Kind = Weight Loss

It is as simple as that.  Monitor your calories for food intake and monitor your calories burned during daily exercise activity.  Just make sure that the calories burned are greater than the calories eaten!

When many of us get on a new bicycle for the first time, we adjust the seat so that our feet are flat on the ground so that we can hold ourselves upright when not moving on the bike.  For those bike enthusiasts that take their biking seriously…  this is the WRONG answer!

Adjusting your bicycle seat so your feet are flat on the ground when sitting is great, but when you are actually pedaling the bike, chances are your legs are at a severely bent angle when your foot reaches the bottom of the pedal stroke.  This means that you are not getting the full power out of your leg muscles when pushing the pedal on the down stroke.
