Maewyn Succat was born in Britain back in the 4th century in the year 387.  He was born in Dumbarton, Scotland which was then under Roman control.  When he was sixteen years old, he was captured by raiders and taken to Ireland and sold into slavery. Being raised by a father who was a church deacon, he would pray for guidance.  He claimed that one day God answered him and told him to escape and go to the coastline where there, he found a ship.  He was able to board and returned to home to Britain.

The Irish Clover or “Shamrock” was used by then, Bishop Patrick to teach the Holy Trinity to the pagan Irish
